Brad Shaw, CLP

Brad works with faculty and researchers in various areas of the College of Engineering to protect and commercialize intellectual property. He has worked to manage and transfer technologies at Michigan State University since July 1999.

Brad has more than 25 years of experience in technology transfer, commercialization, and business development. Before coming to MSU, he worked as a design engineer in the machine tool industry and served as a business development specialist, including all elements of business incubator management. Brad’s experience includes developing and managing programs to assist small business creation and services to small and medium-sized manufacturers, including extensive work in Hungary and Belarus (White Russia).

At MSU, he has taught credit-bearing courses in entrepreneurship for the Eli Broad College of Business and the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management. Brad has also served as an analyst for the former U.S. Congressional Office of Technology Assessment and is co-author of Universities in the Age of Corporate Science (Temple University Press).

Brad holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and a master’s of science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in science, technology, and values.
